On Dec. 9, Sarasota County Public Utilities staff received a called regarding sewer coming out of a manhole at 236 Brindisi Circle in Nokomis. When staff arrived, they confirmed that a wastewater gravity mainline had a blockage causing the spill. Staff quickly stopped the spill by jetting and clearing the blockage with a hydraulic jet truck. Approximately 250 gallons spilled and approximately 800 gallons were recovered from a combination of wastewater and stormwater.

The blockage was caused by energy drink cans and trash. A thorough inspection will be done to find out if there is any more debris in the line that would cause another blockage.
