My name is Justin Willis, and I am reaching out because a deeply disturbing situation is unfolding in our community — one that deserves immediate media attention.
A Sarasota-area business owner, Ricardo Ruiz, has effectively been kidnapped by the immigration system, removed from his family, and held against his will despite having no criminal record and following every step of the legal immigration process.
This is not a typical immigration case — this is a government-created crisis that could be resolved with one signature, yet Ricardo remains locked away while his wife, his family, and the 100+ local workers who depend on him are left suffering.
⭐ THE FACTS (in plain language)
• Ricardo’s I-130 petition has already been approved.
• He has already been found eligible for permanent residency.
• His green card application is ready to be finalized.
• There is no legal or criminal reason for him to be taken from his family.
• The only thing stopping his release is ONE signature from USCIS leadership or the Secretary of Homeland Security.
There is no court process needed. No motion to reopen. No lengthy litigation.
This is purely an administrative failure — and a devastating one.
⭐ WHY THIS MATTERS TO OUR COMMUNITY
Ricardo is not just a resident — he is the employer of over 100 people in our area. His sudden removal has disrupted livelihoods, stalled projects, and caused severe strain on dozens of families who rely on his business and leadership.
At home, his wife is left alone, facing holidays without her husband. His family is traumatized. And all of this is happening when the government already knows he qualifies for residency.
⭐ WHY WE ARE USING THE WORD KIDNAPPED
Because that is what this feels like.
A man was taken away, held behind locked doors, and kept from his family despite having legal approval and no criminal charges.
When the government removes someone without cause and refuses to release them even after confirming their eligibility — there is no gentler word for it.
