Golf cart charge leads to structure fire in Venice

On Saturday, Oct. 25, VFR units were dispatched along with the Sarasota County Fire Department to a reported structure fire on the 100 block of Medici Terrace.

 

Firefighters arrived on scene and found a single-family residential home with heavy flames coming from the garage area. The blaze was called under control shortly before 8:30 p.m. and out at 8:36 p.m. No injuries were reported.

 

The homeowners stated they had plugged in their golf cart to charge; 10 minutes later they smelled something burning in the garage and found the golf cart fully involved. The Venice Fire Marshal was called to the scene to investigate. The fire was determined to be accidental, with point of origin in the vicinity of the charging golf cart.
