Sarasota: Juvenile with Active Warrants Arrested with Stolen Firearm

On July 8, 2025, Sarasota Police Officers arrested a known juvenile with active warrants for possession of marijuana and criminal mischief in the 1800 block of 20th Street.
While in the area, officers observed the juvenile in possession of a firearm. The juvenile was seen removing the gun from his waistband, pointing it at individuals, and then placing it back in his waistband. As officers approached, the juvenile fled on foot, ignoring lawful commands to stop. Additional officers in the area were able to intercept and take him into custody.
During the search, officers located the firearm discarded in a garbage can along the juvenile’s path of flight. The juvenile later admitted to being in the area and stated he fled because he wasn’t sure if officers knew about his warrants. He admitted to touching the gun, having it in his waistband, and described the firearm in detail.
The juvenile was transported to the Sarasota County Jail and charged with two outstanding warrants, resisting arrest without violence, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a felony delinquent, and five counts of violation of probation. In total, he faces seven felony charges and three misdemeanors.
The firearm recovered was confirmed to be reported stolen out of Sarasota County.
This remains an active investigation. No further information will be released at this time.
