Sarasota veterinarian arrested on 2 counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud

On May 1, 2024 Detectives with the Sarasota Police Department Criminal Investigations Division arrested Dr. Melissa Page of Sarasota on two (2) counts of Obtaining a controlled substance by fraud. Dr. Page is this owner of Coastal Veterinary Internal Medicine (3550 Fruitville Road, Sarasota, Florida) was committing prescription fraud in January and February 2024 as she was prescribing medications for her patients (animals), taking them to Walgreens Pharmacy and providing her personal cell phone number to the Pharmacists to contact her when the prescriptions were ready for pick up. Dr. Page would at the end of the day, stop at Walgreens to pick up the prescriptions that she had dropped off earlier in the day. A complaint from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement about the possibility of Dr. page writing fraudulent controlled substances furthered the Detectives investigation, ultimately resulting in the arrest of Dr. Melissa Page. At the time of her arrest, Dr. Page was also charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
