VPD officers are currently at Hecksher Park investigating a disturbance involving a male subject that was armed with a knife and threatening self-harm. The subject ran into the park restrooms on the north side of the tennis courts of the busy park. A VPD Community Resource Officer (CRO) observed the subject run into the restroom and directed responding officers who quickly and safely secured the male.

 

The individual is in protective custody and other circumstances surrounding his behavior are under investigation.

 

The park and nearby school are safe to continue normal activity.
