CITY OF NORTH PORT, FL – The City of North Port has been named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for the 24th straight year in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. North Port achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

With the recent addition of the Natural Resources Division, protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development are at the forefront.

“As a Tree City USA for 24 years running, North Port continues to improve its practices and protect our trees,” Natural Resources Division Manager Stefan Kalev said. “Receiving this recognition once again showcases our commitment to protecting our trees and holding others accountable to keep them safe and growing.”

The City is hosting a “Go Green with Parks” event on National Arbor Day, April 26. Visit Butler Park, 6205 W. Price Blvd., from 5 to 6 p.m. to learn about the benefits of native trees and more.
