In April 2023, the City contracted Pritchett Steinbeck Group, Inc. (PSG), to complete a Threatened and Endangered Species Survey of Warm Mineral Springs Park. PSG reviewed existing surveys and documents, then completed an in-field survey for the presence, signs and habitat of threatened and endangered species. The report has been received and is available for download at NorthPortFL.gov/WMSPMasterPlan.

The report had the following key findings:

➡️ 109 gopher tortoise burrows, with 88 appearing potentially occupied and 21 appearing abandoned.

➡️ 57 of these burrows occurred in areas with dense canopy cover, which is not the typical habitat for gopher tortoises. The report also provides guidance on potential restoration of this habitat.

➡️ Two protected plant species: the leafless beaked ladies’ tresses and the giant airplant.

The findings of this report will be part of the Warm Mineral Springs Park discussion at the City Commission workshop next Monday, July 10, beginning at 9 a.m.
