North Port chickens test positive for West Nile

Francesco Abbruzzino, The Uncensored Report, LLC

Sarasota County

Health Officials issued a mosquito-borne illness advisory last week. Although there have been no reported human cases of West Nile virus (WNV) in Sarasota County, sentinel chickens have tested positive in North Port. Mosquito Management Services have already treated the area and are working together with DOH-Sarasota to continue surveillance and prevention efforts. Please note that August & September are typically the months with the highest risk for mosquito disease transmission. Remember to “Drain and Cover” to protect you and your family from mosquito bites:

✅Drain standing water weekly.
✅Cover doors/windows with screens to keep mosquitoes out.
✅When outdoors, cover skin with clothing or EPA-approved repellents.
