Are Conservative Values Under Attack in Sarasota?

by Melissa L. Radovich

Francesco Abbruzzino, The Uncensored Report, LLC

RESPONSE TO SARASOTA PROUD BOY ATTACK.

I typically ignore editorials offered by individuals who lack credibility; however, I have decided to make an exception. I wear my heart and my convictions on my sleeve. I will not back down from that which is worth fighting for.

First, I am a God-fearing Christ follower. Second, I am the mother of two beautiful children who understand exactly what their mom stands for.  I am also the wife of a man who defends his family and their freedoms. Lastly, I am a patriot! I will hold the line for freedom and liberty in Florida.

I am astonished that the Sarasota Classified Teacher’s Association endorsed Lauren Kurnov, who lied about her work experience at Planned Parenthood. She lied because she knows that Sarasota County’s majority is conservative. When Concerned Parents researched her involvement with Planned Parenthood her response was that she was proud of the work she did with the organization.  Well, then why would she leave that detail off her resume? I started looking through the Social Media Posts of SCTA and what I found next encouraged me to write this.

SCTA posted an Opinion piece by left wing activist Lisa Schurr. Lisa has attempted to shut me down ever since I exposed the statement of solidarity proclaimed by Embracing our Differences (CRT/BLM statement of systematic racism which has since been edited).  She then proceeded to donate money to Embracing our Differences in my name. My respect runs thin for those who donate to organizations out of spite.

Her opinion piece was an attack on myself, and conservative school board candidate Robyn Marinelli. Robyn Marinelli has over 30 years of teaching experience. Robyn is an experienced educator, not a politician. To my knowledge she does not know any Proud Boys, so it’s absurd to even attempt attacking her on this issue. Saying hello to fellow community members is not an approval of one’s political ideologies.

Was Robyn at an event where Proud Boys were present, yes, along with 30 other concerned parents who wanted to ask a School Board member how we could better reach our ESE students. This topic is close to my heart for personal reasons, and also because I taught as a substitute with multiple ESE classes. I’ve seen the dire situation these students and teachers are faced with.

When I think about the Proud Boys, I think of fathers, business owners, and veterans. These fathers have spoken at many school board meetings. They are concerned with the direction their local schools are heading and I commend them for coming to school board meetings.

In a recent discussion Lisa admitted to funding the protest held June 24th at 5-Points in downtown Sarasota. The protest was in response to the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe vs. Wade. The protest was led by our local Manasota BLM leader. Also in attendance was communist organization PSL. Ms. Schurr did not attend the event, she simply provided funding.

I however, did attend the protest to make sure it was peaceful, which it was. I will always be Pro-Life, but I did find a certain level of interest in the passion these women had, standing for what they believe…they don’t just simply throw money at their grievances. The first Amendment is to be protected, even if I don’t agree with the message.

I believe Lisa attacks the Sarasota Proud Boys because they offer push back on the following:

  1. They are Pro-Life.
  2. They stand for America and Freedom, and against communist organizations.
  3. They prefer that discussions of homosexuality are best left to parents (Parental Rights).
  4. They stand against medical mandates, such as the illegal mask mandate in Sarasota County.

Also attacked in this piece were my dear friends Kathy and James. They are not only business owners, but they are wonderful parents, who again, attend school board meetings and do what they can for the kids in our community. Not that it should matter but in defense of their recent attack, their beautiful family includes a Mexican/Indian, a Russian, a Ukrainian, a Haitian, and a Venezuelan.

Lisa Schurr repeatedly attacks Unmask Florida, calling it a front for the Proud Boys. Unmask Florida was established to fight against the illegal mask mandates in Florida, is that not obvious by the group’s name? We stood strong against the mask mandate, which soon after was lifted.

The second Unmask Florida event was indeed at the Hollow. It was a town hall where parents came from every walk of life to ask a school board member why their schools were not taking better care of their ESE students. Our one guest speaker who I will not mention by name, was involved in a non-profit organization with Lisa Schurr…yet Lisa continually calls this event a Proud Boy gathering.

In closing, let’s address the Hollow. The owners of this beautiful venue have opened their doors to many community organizations. To my knowledge, the owners of the Hollow do not ask attendees which groups or political parties they are associated with. Lisa…why don’t you reach out to the Hollow and see if they will allow your non-profit to host a small town hall?

I am simply a mom who will do what’s best for my kids. If I have to speak at school board meetings, fine. If I have to deal with smear campaigns, so be it. My passion will not be stifled, and my stance will not waiver. For God, Family and Freedom…no matter what.

Most Sincerely,

Melissa Radovich
