Suncoast man gets life for life for sexual batter on a child under 12

State Attorney Ed Brodsky announced today that Luis Morales-Alaffita was convicted after jury trial of Sexual Battery By Person Eighteen Years Of Age Or Older Upon Child Less Than 12 Years Of Age; Lewd Or Lascivious Molestation By Person 18 Years Of Age Or Older Upon A Child Less Than 12 Years Of Age. The crimes were committed between 6/2/2020 – 06/28/2020 and were investigated by Palmetto Police Department. The trial was held at the Manatee County Courthouse on May 16th – 18th, 2022.

 

The crimes carry a maximum possible sentence of life in prison for each charge.

 

The minimum mandatory sentences are life in prison as to the Sexual Battery charge, 25 years in prison for the Lewd or Lascivious charge.

 

Defendant was sentenced to life for each of the offenses he was convicted of.

 

The child had recently moved to the defendant’s residence and the abuse began almost as soon as they arrived.
The lead prosecutor in the case, Assistant State Attorney Lauren P Benson commented, “We are grateful to the jury for their diligence in reaching a just verdict and hope the victim can heal and move forward from the hurt the defendant’s criminal actions caused.”
