Suncoast: Former Bradenton teacher convicted of having sex with 15-year-old student

State Attorney Ed Brodsky announced today that Kassandra Leigh Moore was convicted after a plea to Sexual Battery Upon Person 12 Or Older But Less Than 18 By A Person In Familial/custodial Authority; Sexual Battery Upon Person 12 Or Older But Less Than 18 By A Person In Familial/custodial Authority; Sexual Battery Upon Person 12 Or Older But Less Than 18 By A Person In Familial/custodial Authority; Sexual Battery Upon Person 12 Or Older But Less Than 18 By A Person In Familial/custodial Authority; Transmission Of Material Harmful To Minors (Sender AND Recipient In State). The crime(s) was/were committed on 03/23/2019 and investigated by Bradenton Police Department. The plea was taken on March 11th, 2022 and the sentencing took place on May 10th, 2022 in the Manatee County Courthouse. The defendant was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

 

The crimes carry a maximum possible sentence of life.

 

This case drew national media attention upon the defendant’s arrest. The victim was a student of the defendant’s when the crimes took place. The defendant actively sought a relationship with the minor victim through social media and covert meet ups. At sentencing, the victim stated an intention to pursue a career in education so that other children may be afforded the positive educational experience taken from him by the defendant.

 

The lead prosecutor in the case, Assistant State Attorney Lauren P Benson commented, “We are glad that justice was served and hope that this can bring closure and healing to the victim and the victim’s family. We wish the victim the very best in all efforts to take the criminal actions of the defendant and use them for the betterment of society.”
