Geno T. Jackson, 21, of Tampa, has been arrested by Sarasota Police officers and is facing charges of Attempted Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon after a shooting that happened Sunday morning.

On Sunday, December 19, 2021, just before 10:30 a.m., Sarasota Police officers were in the area of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Orange Avenue when they heard gunshots in the area of 28th Street and Leon Avenue.  Officers saw a man running from 28th Street towards Noble Avenue.  The man ignored verbal commands from officers to stop and run inside a home in the 2800 block of Noble Avenue.  Everyone from inside the home left, including Jackson.  He was taken into custody and taken to the Sarasota Police Department.

While Sarasota Police officers were on scene they noticed a vehicle that had a hole, consistent with a bullet hole, in the center of the front windshield.  A man and two other women who were standing near the vehicle told Officers they were standing near the vehicle when shots were fired at them in the area of 28th Street and Leon Avenue.

In the area of 28th Street and Leon Avenue, six 9mm shell casings were found, photographed, and collected as evidence.  One of the women told Sarasota Police that she and Jackson have been dating for more than a year.  She told officers Jackson is jealous of her relationship with the victim.  The woman told officers she had Jackson were involved in a fight earlier in the day.

Additional witnesses told Sarasota Police they saw a man and woman walking on 28th Street towards Leon Avenue.  After they passed, witnesses said they heard a verbal altercation, heard six gunshots, and saw a vehicle being shot.  Witnesses said they saw the woman run towards the home on Noble Avenue.  Witnesses said they saw Jackson, who was wearing a black ski mask and a gun in his hand, drop the gun, take the ski mask off and grab the gun from the bushes.

A search warrant for a home at 2896 Noble Avenue was obtained by Sarasota Police officers.  Officers found a black ski mask, a magazine with 9mm ammunition, multiple loose 9mm ammunition, a 9mm Glock 43X firearm, loose 25 caliber ammunition, loose .223 caliber ammunition, and a 25 caliber Lorcin firearm.

Jackson is currently being held on no bond at the Sarasota County Jail.  Booking photos can be found on the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office website at https://www.sarasotasheriff.org/arrest-reports/index.php
