Police officers in the City of Sarasota have a tough task. They walk into the unknown, they make split-second decisions. Now advancements in technology are helping Sarasota Police officers receive better training. The Sarasota Police Department received a new training simulator and ABC 7’s Daniela Hurtado got an inside look to share why it’s so important and how it works.

 

The simulator, called the VirTra System, allows officers and invited community members to go through all kinds of scenarios including welfare checks, traffic stops, or even an active shooter situation. The outcome of the scenario simulation is all dependant on how officers’ communication and de-escalation skills go.
