Incident Description
A contractor that was performing rehab work on the lift station at 1171 Kittiwake Drive had a piece of equipment malfunction that caused a sanitary sewer overflow. County staff and the contractor responded to the site and determined that the bypass pump had failed causing approximately 2,500 gallons of sewage to discharge from several manholes. The discharge did enter the stormwater system. Crews were able to recover 36,000 gallons of sewage/stormwater from the impacted stormwater structures. The Bypass pumps were repaired and every storm box that was affected was pumped out. No surface waters were impacted, no sampling is required. Notifications and cleanup are proceeding per protocol.
