Reporter Begs Psaki For Biden To Mandate Vaccines Nationwide, Psaki Says That’s ‘Currently’ Not ‘Role of Gov’t’

White House press secretary Jen Psaki found herself pushing back against a corporate media reporter imploring for Joe Biden to impose a nationwide COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
“A lot of folks in the public health world have said that although they appreciate the voluntary nature of what you just said – that the individual to get vaccinated – they also think that the only way to get to much larger numbers of vaccinated people is if there are mandates,” the reporter told Psaki Wednesday on Air Force One on the way to Illinois.
“Yesterday when I asked you the question, you said you had no interest in… that the administration has no interest in encouraging that. Is that really the position of the federal government? That you don’t want to encourage the kind of mandates that public health officials say would work?” he asked.
Psaki responded that imposing vaccine mandates on American citizens is “currently not the role of the federal government.”
Psaki also noted the Biden administration supports private sector efforts to mandate the vaccine for employees.
“Our role is to provide supply, provide information, provide public health experts, as to your point, there are a number of private sector entities, universities, institutions that are starting to mandate, and that’s an innovative step that they will take and they should take,” she said.
But public health experts “want you to be pushing these institutions to do that,” the reporter insisted.
Psaki had to admit that COVID-19 transmission has plummeted by 90%, but also pointed out that the Biden administration is essentially encouraging businesses to mandate vaccines because the government isn’t in their way.
“We’re not standing in their way. Those are innovative steps,” Psaki said. “Go forward and take steps that you feel are appropriate.”
The exchange comes after Psaki and Biden both announced a new government initiative to deploy a door-to-door vaccine task force in communities across the country.
But evidently that authoritarian step doesn’t go far enough for the mainstream media.
