City of Venice bike lane is causing heartache for family members trying to take care of their elderly parents
Francesco Abbruzzino, The Uncensored Report, LLC
From what I am gathering, you can not park in the street on Alhambra and block a bike lane. The same issue happens in Pinebrook or use to when my kids were younger. Their friends would spend the night and park their cars in the front of the house because the drive way was full. Dear City of Venice,
Did you ever realize the hardship you put upon your homeowners who reside on a street with a bike lane? My parents have lived on Alhambra Rd for over 68 years, and we no longer have the privilege to park in front of their house. You see, there are four of us kids who help my parents (they are 88 & 91) several times a week. There house was built in the 1940s, so the driveway is singular, 4 extra cars can not fit in the driveway or yard. Closest side street is Harbor Dr. which has a bike lane, so no parking there either.
Neighbors have been generous to let us use their driveways, but they will be back in the Winter, so that is not a solution.
VPD has informed us that repair workers, Home Health Nurses, yard services etc. may not park on the street either, even for a short time.
I did contact the Asst. City Manager who was understanding, and he forwarded my concerns to the Engineering Dept. And I’ve heard nothing.
My Father was born in Venice in 1931, and his Father before him in 1898, and have certainly seen many changes through the years, but this one has made a personal and distressing impact on both my parents and us siblings and grandchildren.
So, you leave us with no choice but to pay the 25$ fine every time we visit our parents, shame on you for not taking into consideration the consequences of this issue. After all, a bicyclist only uses this street for a few minutes and the residents deal with it every day, all day!
