Nine passengers are rescued after a boat catches fire off Longboat Key

UPDATE: We’re adding a few photos from the boat fire earlier today from our Marine Patrol Officers. SeaTow is with the vessel now but due to weather conditions deteriorating, removal may not be possible until Monday. Again, all 9 passengers who were on board are safe.

Our Marine Patrol, along with Sarasota County Emergency Services and the Town of Longboat Key Marine Patrol are working a boat fire in Sarasota Bay about 350 yards west of the 10th Street boat ramp. The boat is a personal 24-foot vessel.
Citizens on the water along with our Officers brought 9 passengers to shore safely. Everyone is safe and accounted for.
