Suncoast Congressman Vern Buchanan votes in favor of the gun control laws upsetting his local base
Written by Scoop Publisher Francesco Abbruzzino
Suncoast Congressman Buchanan voted in favor of three out of four gun control measures that the Democrats are pushing, which has upset many local base. Many believe that gun laws only impact law-abiding citizens, not criminals.
I did email the Congressman via his Twitter account and regular congressional email, to ask him why he voted for the three listed below. At the time of this posting, there was no reply. If he or his staff does reply, I will add it to this postings.
What are your thoughts? Just another piece of the gun control pie, until the whole pie is eaten? Or are the Dems trying to ensure common sense gun control measures and it will end with this legislation? As you can see from Feinstein’s Tweet, this is just one piece of the pie and they plan on introducing more gun control legislation.
Thoughts?
Hours after the House passed a bill allowing for unlimited delays for FBI background checks, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer revived a House-passed bill requiring background checks for private firearms sales, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) announced that she would soon ‘work with her Senate colleagues’ to pass other reforms – including an assault weapons ban – in the coming weeks.(1)
I look forward to working with my colleagues to pass this bill and other reforms, including the assault weapons ban I will reintroduce in the coming weeks. With a new administration in the White House, it’s time to take action to end gun violence. pic.twitter.com/SRSJ7BSDs0

House Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) vowed on Thursday to reintroduce gun reform legislation, while the House passed a second bill aimed at background checks within the last hour.(1)
“No more hopes and prayers, thoughts and prayers—a vote is what we need,” said Schumer, vowing to bring a bill, H.R. 8, out of former Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s ‘legislative graveyard’ after it stalled in the Senate in early 2019 after passing through the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives.(1)

According to a summary of the bill, its goal is to “utilize the current background checks process in the United States to ensure individuals prohibited from gun possession are not able to obtain firearms.”(1)

Congressman Buchanan’s votes in favor of the gun grab are below.
3/11/2021 | 76 | H.R.1446 | Yea | On Motion to Recommit: Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021
This bill revises background check requirements applicable to proposed firearm transfers from a federal firearms licensee (e.g., a licensed gun dealer) to an unlicensed person. Specifically, it increases the amount of time, from 3 business days to a minimum of 10 business days, that a federal firearms licensee must wait to receive a completed background check prior to transferring a firearm to an unlicensed person. (This type of transaction is often referred to as a default proceed transaction.) If a submitted background check remains incomplete after 10 business days, then the prospective purchaser may submit a petition for a final firearms eligibility determination. If an additional 10 days elapse without a final determination, then the federal firearms licensee may transfer the firearm to the prospective purchaser. |
3/11/2021 | 75 | H.R.8 | Yea | On Passage: Bipartisan Background Checks Act
This bill establishes new background check requirements for firearm transfers between private parties (i.e., unlicensed individuals). Specifically, it prohibits a firearm transfer between private parties unless a licensed gun dealer, manufacturer, or importer first takes possession of the firearm to conduct a background check. The prohibition does not apply to certain firearm transfers, such as a gift between spouses in good faith. |
