On June 16, 2020, President Donald J. Trump signed the “Executive Order on Safe Policing for Safe Communities.” Specific criteria must be maintained in order to act in accordance with the stipulations outlined in Executive Order No. 13929.

“Law enforcement officers provide the essential protection that all Americans require to raise their families and lead productive lives.  The relationship between our fellow citizens and law enforcement officers is an important element in their ability to provide that protection.  By working directly with their communities, law enforcement officers can help foster a safe environment where we all can prosper,” the executive order reads.

It goes on to address that state and local law enforcement agencies must continually assess and improve their practices and policies to ensure transparent, safe, and accountable law enforcement services to their communities.

The Executive Order on Safe Policing empowered the U.S. Attorney General to designate independent credentialing bodies, including the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, to acknowledge a law enforcement agency’s that meet the Department of Justice’s standards on use-of-force.

It is with great pleasure to announce that the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office meets the mandatory conditions regarding use-of-force, set forth by DOJ, to be eligible for receipt of discretionary federal grant funding provided by DOJ.

“The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office has always followed best practices with all of our policies and procedures and it shows with how quickly we were certified under the President’s Executive Order,” states Sheriff Prummell.
