Chinese Nationals Writing Censorship Algorithms For Facebook, Says Ex-Insider
At least a half-dozen Chinese nationals are working with Facebook to develop censorship algorithms, the New York Post reported.
The Chinese nationals are part of a “Hate Speech Engineering” group which writes “machine learning” algorithms that censor newsfeeds, according to an ex-insider who spoke to the Post.
“What they don’t do is ban a specific pro-Trump hashtag,” said the ex-insider, adding that, instead, “content that is a little too conservative, they will down-rank. You can’t tell it’s censored.”
Given that China is likely the most censored country in the world, with a population conditioned to accept censorship, it wouldn’t be surprising that Facebook would hire H-1B Chinese nationals to develop censorship programs here in the US.
And what’s even more draconian is that, according to the ex-insider, they’re teaching machines how to censor speech and stifle defiance, much like the robot cops from THX-1138.
“Machine learning is a field of computer science that aims to teach computers how to learn and act without being explicitly programmed,” according to DeepAI.org. “More specifically, machine learning is an approach to data analysis that involves building and adapting models, which allow programs to ‘learn’ through experience.”
“Machine learning involves the construction of algorithms that adapt their models to improve their ability to make predictions.”
In short, these “Artificial Neural Networks” won’t have the moral dilemma whether censorship is wrong.
“When it comes to censorship on social media, that means ‘teaching’ the Facebook code so certain content ends up at the top of your newsfeed, a feat that earns the firm’s software wizards discretionary bonuses, per the ex-insider,” the Post added. “It also means making sure other content ‘shows up dead-last.’”
“Like, say, a New York Post report on the Biden dynasty’s dealings with Chinese companies.”
