NOKOMIS MAN ARRESTED FOR SEXUAL BATTERY, KIDNAPPING
** Update ** I heard that all charges were dropped, but some individuals stated that was not accurate, so I went to the court doc site and validated that all charges have been DROPPED/ABANDONDONED. After the SCSO put out the release, it was picked up by all media and I wanted to make sure the public was updated.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 51-year-old Nokomis man on several charges after he sexually battered a woman and burned her with a blow torch.
Deputies were called Wednesday morning to a Nokomis residence after receiving a report of a sexual battery. When they arrived, the victim reported Douglas Clark came to her home unannounced around midnight and used narcotics in the kitchen. Deputies learned Clark then attacked the woman by striking her in the head with a small television, sexually battering her twice, and burning her leg with a blow torch. Further investigation revealed Clark forced her into his vehicle while he drove to a convenience store before taking her home and leaving the scene. Detectives noted several injuries on the victim who was being treated at the hospital. Tactical Unit deputies conducted a traffic stop on Clark near the intersection of Pinebrook Road and Laurel Road where he was taken into custody.
Clark, DOB 03/31/69, of 405 Pinewood Avenue, is charged with two counts of Sexual Battery on a Victim 12 Years or Older, and single counts of Kidnapping, Driving While License Suspended, and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. He remains in custody today without bond.
