Tuesday afternoon the North Port Police Department responded to a report of a male subject exposing himself at the Heron Creek Towne Center.
The suspect, identified as Issa Mousa Alyan, a 69-year-old male from Sarasota, was found seated in his car with pants undone. As the responding officer attempted to question him, Alyan placed his vehicle in gear and began driving in reverse, striking the officer’s police vehicle. Alyan then put the vehicle in drive. The officer had to move out of the way to avoid being struck.
A pursuit ensued as Alyan recklessly fled down Sumter Blvd then northbound on U.S. 41, showing a blatant disregard for public safety. Due to his refusal to stop and the danger posed to others, officers utilized a controlled intervention maneuver, bringing the pursuit to an end near the roundabout at Costco.
Alyan was taken into custody and is facing multiple charges, including:
•Exposure of Sexual Organs (Misdemeanor)
•Criminal Mischief (Felony)
•Fleeing & Eluding (Felony)
•Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer (Felony)
•Possession of Narcotics and Paraphernalia (charges pending further investigation).
As a result of the incident, one officer sustained injuries during the collision and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Alyan was also taken taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
