Sarasota: A force main break leads to a 32,000 gallon raw sewage spill

 

 

 

I am coming up with 32,000 gallons based upon how the notice was submitted.  To me it appears as though the submission covers how 7,000 gallons went into a ditch leading to the canal and another 25,000 gallons was recovered. – Frankie

Incident Description
Utility crews responded to a call regarding a force main break adjacent to 2554 Dr Martin Luther King Way . Upon investigation, they discovered the 12? force main cracked along the bottom of the pipe. The utility crews were able to quickly isolate the force main and perform the repairs. Approximately 7,000 gallons of sewage spilled into the excavation site and into a nearby ditch that leads to a canal. Approximately 25,000 gallons of sewage mixed with storm water was recovered using county equipment. Sampling of the canal has been scheduled, clean-up and notifications are proceeding per protocol.
