Two Suncoast woman are arrested involving charges of distributing meth causing death

Two women are now in custody after being indicted by the Charlotte County Grand Jury, for a case involving distributing Methamphetamines causing death.

 

State Attorney Amira Fox convened the Charlotte County Grand Jury Thursday. Defendants Marie Margaret Hunter and Mary Katheryn Brown were arrested Thursday evening. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.

 

Marie Margaret Hunter has been indicted for First Degree Murder Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamines, a Capital Felony, Sale or Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver a Controlled Substance.

 

 

Mary Katheryn Brown has been indicted for First Degree Murder Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance Methamphetamines, a Capital Felony, Sale or Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver a Controlled Substance, and Prostitution–Offering to Commit Prostitution, Lewdness, or Assignation.

 

The indictments read in part that between July 4, 2023, and July 6, 2023, in Charlotte County, the defendants did unlawfully, kill the victim, by the unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, to wit, Methamphetamines, and the said controlled substance, or mixture thereof, caused or was a substantial factor in producing the death of the victim.

 

Assistant State Attorneys Scott Patterson and Kristan Burns are prosecuting the case.

 

“This is the third indictment from the Charlotte County Grand Jury in a day. I want to thank them for their time and attention to the evidence. The detailed investigation of the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office was integral to being able to present this case to the Grand Jury. I want to thank Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell and his staff for their excellent work,” said State Attorney Fox.

 

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family. As the State Attorney’s Office has demonstrated many times, those who choose to profit from the misery of others and sell or distribute drugs, that we can prove caused death, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” said State Attorney Fox.
