Sarasota Police arrest driver in deadly DUI crash

The Sarasota Police Department has arrested Joshua Slieff, 31, of Sarasota, in connection with a deadly crash that occurred at 9:51 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the intersection of Fruitville Road and Tuttle Avenue.

Video evidence and witness statements indicate that Slieff was speeding when he rear-ended a Toyota sedan stopped at a red light.

The passenger of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver remains in critical condition. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.

Slieff has been charged with the following:

  • D.U.I. Manslaughter (felony)
  • D.U.I. with Serious Bodily Injury (felony)
  • Refusal to submit to a Blood Alcohol Test

Slieff is being held in the Sarasota County Jail without bond. No further information can be shared at this time.
