A & B EVACUATIONS CALLED
An evacuation order is in place for Levels A and B, manufactured communities or a mobile or boat home. Those living in level C should be prepared to evacuate if the storm intensifies. If you’re unsure of your evacuation level, visit the Know Your Evacuation Level webpage.
Evacuation centers will open Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 10 a.m.

When heading to an evacuation center, prepare your checklist of items. All evacuation centers are pet-friendly, but you must bring all supplies including a crate. Remember: evacuation centers cannot provide chairs, bedding, cots, blankets or pet supplies.

DEBRIS/SOLID WASTE
Contract haulers for the City of Venice are out today working to collect debris from Hurricane Helene before impacts from Hurricane Milton are expected, Tuesday night into Wednesday. These haulers will initially concentrate on the Flamingo Ditch area. The City’s own two claw trucks, which have been hauling bulk pickups of debris since Helene struck Venice, will be concentrating on Inlet Circle today. Also, the City’s regular curbside pickups will be concentrating on Venice island today.
Despite these efforts, there is a significant amount of debris on roadways that will NOT be able to be picked up before weather conditions begin to deteriorate from Milton. Levels A and B are currently under evacuation notice from Sarasota County. If you reside in an area with significant debris that cannot be secured, evacuation is highly recommended as this debris will create additional hazards.
There will be no regular collection of trash, recycling and yard waste on Wednesday, Oct. 9 due to anticipated Milton impact. Thursday collection will be determined after assessing storm impacts. Following trash collections today and Tuesday, please secure garbage/recycling carts and other loose items around your home to help them from becoming airborne in high winds, posing an additional danger.
SANDBAG STATIONS
The City of Venice has a self-service sandbag station for residents available today, Monday, Oct. 7, at 252 Seaboard Ave. BOTH SAND AND BAGS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE SEABOARD LOCATION, and it will stay open after 5 p.m. as supplies last. Sandbags are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Shovels will be provided. Limit 10 bags per vehicle.
Additionally, Sarasota County is offering self-service sandbags to residents today through 7 p.m. at South County Fleet Services, 4571 S.R. 776/Englewood Road, South Venice. Bags and shovels are also at this location. Residents are limited to 10 bags per vehicle.
