NORTH PORT, FL – A self-serve sandbag station is now available for City of North Port residents at the Larry Thoennissen Athletic Fields behind the George Mullen Activity Center, 1602 Kramer Way.

Bags and sand will be available while supplies last, with a limit of 10 bags per vehicle. Residents are asked to bring their own shovels.

The City’s Emergency Management team is closely monitoring Potential Tropical Cyclone 9 in coordination with its partners at the National Weather Service and Sarasota County. Although the City of North Port is currently shown outside the cone of uncertainty, tropical storm impacts can and will extend beyond the radius of the cone of uncertainty.

The Department of Public Works has lowered water levels throughout the city in preparation of elevated storm-related rainfall to increase capacity. To learn more about how North Port’s stormwater system works and how the City manages it, visit NorthPortFL.gov/Stormwater.

Residents are encouraged to update their family plans and purchase disaster preparedness supplies in anticipation of possible tropical storm impacts in the area. Additionally, residents are encouraged to register with AlertSarasotaCounty.com to receive important public safety messages.
