A plaque recognizing the work of the Hospital Volunteers of Venice (HVV) will be officially unveiled on Tuesday, April 4 at 10:30 a.m. Founders Way is located on the 300 block between West Venice Avenue and Miami Avenue. The walkway honors the founding of Venice Hospital and the four doctors that made it happen. It includes a plaque for the hospital and one each for the four founding doctors.
With the closing of ShorePoint Health last year, the Volunteers ended a tenure of service to the hospital and the greater Venice community since the first group formed in 1951. When seeking a way to recognize their decades of service, the group considered several ideas. After working with City staff, a plaque recognizing them on Founders Way seemed only fitting. With approval from City Council to place it on City property, HVV created a plaque memorializing their work alongside the doctors. Their legacy will live on not only on Founders Way, but also through a permanent scholarship endowment managed by the Gulf Coast Community Foundation
