In the early hours of June 29, 2025, Venice Police officers encountered a suspicious vehicle illegally parked in front of the police department. The driver, later identified as Julie Faith Cornwall (DOB 12/24/1955), was found unconscious behind the wheel with open containers of alcohol in plain view.

After waking the driver, officers observed signs of impairment and uncooperative behavior. Anticipating a potential flight risk, they proactively deployed stop sticks around the vehicle. Moments later, Cornwall unexpectedly started the car and fled, running over the stop sticks and initiating a pursuit.

Despite driving on a deflated tire and disregarding multiple traffic signals, Cornwall continued for several miles before stopping outside Venice City Hall. Officers safely took her into custody after forcing entry into the vehicle due to her continued noncompliance.

Cornwall was treated on scene for minor injuries and transported to the Sarasota County Jail. She faces multiple charges, including:
DUI (Driving Under the Influence)
Fleeing to Elude Law Enforcement
Resisting an Officer Without Violence
