SARASOTA COUNTY – The Resilient SRQ Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Action Plan for the 2024 storms Debby, Helene and Milton was officially approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on June 4.

This approval allows Sarasota County to continue long-term recovery efforts using the $210 million allocated for these three storms. Combined with the $201.5 million awarded in 2023 for Hurricane Ian recovery, the total CDBG-DR funding managed by Resilient SRQ now exceeds $411.6 million.

“The community has been anticipating this milestone, and we’re excited to have official approval so we can continue the hard work of recovery from last year’s storms,” said Resilient SRQ Division Manager Steve Hyatt. “Our team is ready to support the community and put these funds to work, building on the continued progress made through Hurricane Ian recovery and addressing the impacts of these most recent storms.”

With the Action Plan approved, staff will continue developing and launching the programs outlined in the plan. Application periods for major programs, including housing and infrastructure, are expected to open in the coming weeks and months.

Updates about application windows, eligibility, program guidelines and funding opportunities will be posted at 2024Storms.ResilientSRQ.net as they become available.
