CITY OF NORTH PORT, FL – Since implementing the Accela online permit processing system, the City of North Port has seen substantial improvements in most permits’ processing and review times. Recent data indicates that average processing times have been reduced from 20–40 days to fewer than 10 days.
More than 80 percent of Certificates of Zoning Compliance (CZC) are now processed and reviewed in less than five days. Additionally, over 90 percent of building permits are being processed and reviewed within three to five days.
Prior to the implementation of the Accela permitting platform and new Unified Land Development Code (ULDC) processes, only 68 percent of building permit applications were processed in fewer than 30 days for compliance with zoning, stormwater, and Florida Building Code requirements.
“We know the transition to the new system caused some initial confusion and skepticism,” Development Services Director Alaina Ray said. “Our team would like to thank the residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation while we transitioned to this more efficient process.”
Continuous improvement efforts are underway, and the City encourages constructive feedback.
