A Port Charlotte man is in the Charlotte County Jail after shooting at two door-to-door salesmen as they were leaving his property.

In the afternoon of Monday, May 19, two men were going door-to-door on Boabadilla Lane in Port Charlotte, attempting to sell solar panel packages for their company. When they arrived at 13379 Boabadilla Lane and knocked on the door, they were greeted by a woman who was upset that they were there and told them to leave. As they began to leave the property, they suddenly heard multiple gunshots and turned to see a man, later identified as William Mark Williams (08/05/1952), pointing a gun in their direction. Williams then fired several more times toward them. No shots hit anyone.

The men ran to the neighbor’s home and frantically pounded on the door, asking for help. The neighbor allowed the men to move to her backyard and law enforcement was contacted. Deputies arrived and detained the suspect, who the victims were able to positively identify as the man who had shot at them. The neighbor confirmed that she had also heard several gunshots just prior to the men pounding on her door.“Once again we are called out to a neighborhood in which a firearm was discharged recklessly. Thankfully, nobody was hurt by this individual’s actions, though I am sure the victims will not forget the fear they felt any time soon. This man’s response to solicitors was absolutely uncalled for and could have been deadly. I pray that people can learn to regulate their emotions instead of jumping to violence so quickly.

A search warrant was obtained for the residence, where detectives located multiple firearms and ammunition inside. Additionally, detectives found a spent shell casing on the ground outside as well as one unspent casing in the grass. Williams declined to speak with detectives, asking instead for an attorney. He was placed under arrest, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm in public. He is being held at the Charlotte County Jail without bond.
