Garden Elementary staff are not happy after preliminary results show black mold and high levels of CO2 could be triggering health issues

Focused on what could be causing the various symptoms of the staff and students.
Per source: Levels of CO2 found could cause headaches and such. But that said that is a comfortable level. And the school didn’t install co2 monitors until a week ago
15-minute mark. Discovered biological agents around room 138 (black mold). The fact that it is black mold is at 25:12 mark. At 28:40 the consultant states that if the mold is in the air, it can travel. This issue infuriated staff. Staffer called Dumas a liar and reflected on how Dumas said the illness is probably allergies during one of their conversations. They will conduct additional testing.
An individual asked: At the levels you found in the class could long term exposure make people sick. The response was “yes”
Per my source, they said that testing was done with kids in the classrooms for that. Teachers are saying they did not
The school admitted that the levels of black mold found could make people sick
Member in audience: It has been going for 3 years, but the school board is claiming they jumped on it. Walk through was in October 2022…….
- Why has it taken years to get a company out here? Dumas covered how several air quality complaints came in through the years. They would review the complaints and not find issues. Then they decided to bring a consultant in after so many teachers were sick, years later.
- Teachers want to know why more has not been done since 2023. Since then, teachers and students have reported so many health issues.
- There was never a consideration by Dumas to shut down the school and states they are not at that level today.
This is the first assessment and there will be further analysis
How will they educate teachers and students in the future. Did not really give a solid response, only that they will communicate based upon the circumstances.
Will sample all exterior doors for mold.
Consulting company states that there are air quality issues and they must find out what the problem is and where it is.
Found issues in the air handlers with the portable units
They have only looked at a few rooms so far, but they are going to look at others.
