A man who is the suspect in multiple thefts in Englewood was located and arrested while burglarizing a boat.

The individual, Tristan Eugene Royer (01/23/1984) is a suspect in at least six cases in Englewood to include stolen boats and motors, burglary and theft at Manasota Key resort, and using another person’s credit card fraudulently. Royer was already out on bond from previous boat and motor thefts.

Shortly after 2am on Tuesday, May 20, a deputy observed Royer pushing a jon-boat in the water near Massachusetts Ave. in Englewood. (This jon-boat was later determined to also have been stolen.) The deputy gave several commands for Royer to stop, but Royer ignored the orders and fled onto the waterway. The deputy called for additional units to include Aviation, K9, and STAR.

While searching, the Aviation Unit observed a person on a boat and directed members to that area. As the members boarded the vessel, they located an open window and attempted to make contact with anyone who may be inside. They received no response. A K9 alerted that there was indeed someone inside and entered through the window with his handler. The member declared himself as being with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and advised anyone inside to make themselves known or he would release the K9. At that time, Royer responded and was ordered to come out with his hands up. Royer finally surrendered to deputies and was taken into custody, along with a female that had been onboard. The female was detained, but is not a suspect and was released.

“I want to thank my team for their efforts in locating this suspect and taking him into custody. We have the resources to cover the land, water, and sky if we need to – and in this case, we did just that. Thanks to their hard work, we have a habitual offender back behind bars where he belongs. At this point, I feel like we should just designate a room for Mr. Royer at the Charlotte County Jail since he apparently enjoys being there so much.

Royer refused to speak with deputies and requested a lawyer. He was transported to the Charlotte County Jail and will face a multitude of charges from the ongoing cases. He is being held with a bond amount of $76,500.00.

The video below shows footage from the Aviation Unit during the search for Royer, followed by body-worn camera footage from the K9 deputy as he was located.
