Myakka Rd closing to replace culvert and improve drainage

Sarasota County will close a portion of Myakka Road beginning Monday, May 5, to replace a culvert and improve drainage in the area. The closure will affect access to the north entrance of Myakka River State Park.
Myakka Road will be closed to through traffic south of the bridge and north of Clay Gully Road. Drivers will be detoured north on Verna Road to Historic Florida 780 in Manatee County, then east to State Road 70 and south on MJ Road to reach Clay Gully Road.
The roadwork and closure are expected to continue through July 2025. Drivers should allow extra time and use caution when following detour routes.
