A man is charged with Kidnapping and Sexual Battery in Charlotte County following a carjacking that occurred in North Port.
On the morning of April 3, 2025, Charlotte County detectives were called out to the RaceTrac Gas Station located near the border of Charlotte County and North Port in reference to an alleged carjacking and sexual assault. The North Port Police Department were also on scene, due to the carjacking having occurred in their jurisdiction. Based on the victim’s statements, it was determined that the sexual assault occurred in Charlotte County.
The victim advised that, while stopped at a red light at the intersection of Tamiami Trail and Sumter Blvd., a light-skinned black male on foot grabbed her shirt through her open car window and asked for a ride. Despite her declining his request, she spoke politely with him while waiting for the light to change and eventually gave in when he asked again. According to the victim, the suspect, later identified as Jorge Daniel Martin (7/17/1998), abruptly grabbed the steering wheel as she was driving and then grabbed her by the throat, stating that he had killed someone before and would kill her as well if she did not do what he wanted.
Martin forced the victim to travel to a secluded area and threw her phone when she attempted to contact someone for help. After making another threat, the suspect demanded that the victim engage in sexual activity with him. At one point, the suspect struck the victim repeatedly in the face when she did not do as he wanted. The sexual assault continued for a long period of time. When it had ended, the victim tricked the suspect into allowing her to drive them to the RaceTrac Gas Station to get food, at which time she asked the attendant to call 911.
The suspect became suspicious of why the victim had not returned to the car, so he went inside the gas station to look for her. Law enforcement arrived shortly after and detained Martin.
“With April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month, it is imperative that we call out crimes like these when they do happen. While I am thankful that they are rare in Charlotte County, I want our community to know that we take these reports very seriously and we will hold the suspect accountable. I encourage anyone who experiences sexual violence to speak up as this woman did so it can be stopped. I also want to thank to the North Port Police Department, with whom we have been collaborating on this investigation. It serves as another example of the way all of the law enforcement entities work together to keep Southwest Florida safe.”

Martin made several statements denying sexual battery had occurred, despite the fact that detectives had not even mentioned an investigation of that nature. A Body Standards Search Warrant was conducted, and evidence was obtained that matched the victim’s description of the assault.
Jorge Martin was arrested and transported to the Sarasota County Jail, where he is being held without bond on multiple charges based on the NPPD investigation. He will then face charges in Charlotte County, to include Kidnapping and Sexual Battery.
