The Sarasota Police Department continues its High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) program to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety. Sarasota ranks among Florida’s top 25 cities for traffic crashes resulting in serious and fatal injuries to pedestrians and bicyclists.

To protect vulnerable road users, HVE details will run September 2024 – May 2025, focusing on key roadways, including:

🔹 North Washington Blvd (US 301) – 10th St to Myrtle St
🔹 Central Ave – Mira Mar Ct to 5th St

🔹 North Tamiami Trail (US 41) – Blvd of the Arts to Gary St
🔹 South Tamiami Trail (US 41) – Browning St to Mound St
🔹 South Tamiami Trail (US 41) – Bahia Vista St to Webber St
🔹 Fruitville Rd – Florence Ave to Midwest Pkwy & School Ave to Jefferson Ave
🔹 Tuttle Ave – Colorado St to 6th St

This initiative aims to increase awareness and compliance with traffic laws protecting pedestrians and cyclists. Officers will focus on education first, but violations may result in warnings or citations.

“We are committed to educating every driver, pedestrian, and bicyclist about the rules of the road,” said Officer Jason Frank of the Sarasota Police Traffic Unit. “Ensuring the safety of our community is our top priority.”

🚗 Drivers: Follow speed limits, stay sober, and watch for pedestrians/cyclists.
🚲 Bicyclists: Obey traffic laws, ride with traffic, and use lights at night.
🚶 Pedestrians: Use crosswalks, follow signals, and stay visible at night.

All interactions will be documented, and results will be submitted to the Florida Department of Transportation for evaluation at the campaign’s conclusion.
