Sarasota County

Update on the county’s Fresh Start with a Cart initiative, as Sarasota County prepares for changes to solid waste services in unincorporated areas.

Starting March 31, new service providers will take over garbage collection for residents and businesses.  With the county’s current agreement with Waste Management expiring, Sarasota County conducted a competitive bidding process to secure high-quality service at the best value for the community.

What’s Changing?

  • New Service Days – Many residents will have a different collection day.
  • Bulk Pickup – Four free bulk pickups (up to 10 cubic yards) per year; additional pickups are available for a fee.
  • Curbside Collection – Garbage, recycling, and yard waste will continue to be collected on the same day.
  • New Garbage Carts – Each household will receive one garbage cart. Additional carts are available upon request (fees apply).
