An investigation undertaken by BPD’s Drug Enforcement Agency Task Force Officer resulted in an 11-year federal prison sentence for a Mexican methamphetamine trafficker.

This week, a U.S. District Judge sentenced Nicolas Garcia Hernandez to 11 years and three months for trafficking nearly nine kilograms of methamphetamine into Florida.

Garcia Hernandez traveled from Tennessee to Florida in December 2023 and delivered approximately three kilograms of meth to a DEA Task Force informant. The task force learned Garcia Hernandez was making another delivery to the informant in May 2024. Florida Highway Patrol troopers intercepted the delivery on I-75 in Hillsborough County and, after a positive alert by a K9, found nearly six kilograms of meth in the vehicle.

Garcia Hernandez pleaded guilty to possessing with the intent to distribute methamphetamine in November 2024.
