City of Sarasota, FL: Following extensive storm debris collection efforts, the City’s solid waste collection returned to regular operations in December 2024. As normal operations have resumed, residents should follow the City’s solid waste collection rules.

Residential yard waste should be placed in cans, paper bags, or bundles weighing less than 50 pounds. Bundles should not exceed forty-eight inches in length. Yard waste that is not properly prepared will not be collected but can be prepared for the following week’s collection or picked up via special pickup.

Bulk waste such as couches, tables, mattresses, appliances, or other items too large to fit in a City garbage cart can be placed at the curb for regular collection. Bulk waste exceeding one cubic yard (3x3x3 feet or roughly the size of a residential washer or dryer) will require special pickup.

All items must be placed at the right-of-way no later than 7 a.m. on residents’ assigned collection day. City-issued carts must have their lids in the closed position in order to be collected. Solid waste carts and items should not be placed under trees, in the roadway, or less than 6 feet from any obstructions to allow collection equipment to maneuver.
