Two suspects of crimes from multiple counties were arrested in Charlotte County while stealing marine equipment in a stolen vehicle.

On January 8th, 2025, detectives with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office were notified by Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office of a stolen vehicle entering their jurisdiction from State Road 31 and the Lee County line. The stolen vehicle was a white 2005 Ford E350, from Charlotte County, with a stolen Maryland plate attached. This vehicle has been the prime suspect vehicle for burglary cases in Hillsborough County, Charlotte County, Lee County, and Collier County.

Detectives spotted the vehicle heading west on Bermont Road toward Duncan Road. Detectives in their unmarked vehicles began following the van, which led them to PG 17 Storage at 4432 Duncan Road. Aviation was also alerted and began to follow the vehicle as well. Detectives observed the stolen vehicle circling the area and then driving into the storage lot where two suspects, later identified as Michel Suarez Legon (11/23/1978) and Yoenys Trujillo Ruiz (08/10/1989), began removing GPS units from the boats on the lot.

A perimeter was set up while detectives waited for additional deputies to arrive. The stolen vehicle was seen driving towards the entrance of the storage lot, where a felony traffic stop was initiated. Both suspects surrendered and were placed into custody. An inventory of the vehicle produced three stolen GPS Units, 3.2 grams of Methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and tools that were stolen from Hillsborough County. Additional items were found in the stolen vehicle which are still being verified as having been stolen.

“This is a perfect example of how law enforcement sharing information and working together adds up to safer communities. Because of the efforts of Hillsborough, Lee, Collier, and YOUR Charlotte County Sheriff’s Offices, these criminals were caught in the act and arrested. My team did an excellent job strategizing, observing, and securing the suspects without incident. Maybe other criminals watching will finally learn not to try their nonsense in Southwest Florida.”

Sheriff Bill Prummell
