TWO MILLION Cubic Yards of Debris Collected in Unincorporated Sarasota County: Dec. 6, 2024

Francesco Abbruzzino, The Uncensored Report, LLC

Over the past 54 days, Sarasota County’s debris contractors have collected 2 million cubic yards of storm debris throughout unincorporated Sarasota County. More than 200 contractors from around the country continue to work daily to help collect storm debris from both Hurricanes Helene and Milton. An estimated additional 400,000 cubic yards remains for collection.

Substantial debris removal has been completed on the Keys and other coastal areas that were heavily impacted by both storms. Many of the sub-zones on the barrier islands and along the coastal areas have been noticed for final pass collections and are expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

Debris contractors are also making significant progress throughout the other areas of the unincorporated county that sustained primarily vegetative damage due to high winds during Hurricane Milton.

As contractors reach substantial completion in each sub-zone, Sarasota County staff conduct windshield assessments as a quality control measure to ensure all eligible materials have been collected before the road and/or sub-zones are marked complete.

Track the progress of debris collection in your community on the Debris Pickup Status Zone App.

Once a road or sub-zone is marked complete, this indicates that debris collection is complete for the area and contractors will not be returning to collect additional materials. Disposal for any remaining debris is the property owner’s responsibility.
