Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners set strategic priorities for 2025

SARASOTA COUNTY – The Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners identified their strategic priorities to set the roadmap for goals, projects, and initiatives in 2025, during the annual planning retreat on Friday, Dec. 13.

The board’s discussion on 2025 priorities focused on:

  • Stormwater to include as a complete review of the stormwater system;
  • Examining stormwater facilities opportunities;
  • Considering potential impacts of Gulf Gate golf course acquisition for stormwater;
  • Affordable housing;
  • Keeping Midnight Pass open;
  • Long-range funding plan considerations for making Wellfield a regional park, and;
  • An expansion plan of Fruitville Road to Verna Road and Lorraine Road to Palmer Blvd.

The board will continue to focus on crucial agenda topics including infrastructure and water quality. The board will finalize its strategic priorities during the Jan. 15, 2025 commission meeting. The Sarasota County Board of County Commission webpage can be viewed for additional information.

During the retreat, Dr. Joe Neunder, District 4 Commissioner, was chosen as the next Chair, and Commissioner Ron Cutsinger, District 5, was selected as Vice Chair. Commissioner Mark Smith, District 2, was chosen Pro Tem. They’ll serve in these positions for the 2025 calendar year.

The Chair presides at commission meetings and represents the board during ceremonial functions, and the vice chair assumes duties when they are unavailable.
