City of North Port to host another Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event this Saturday

Residents will have an additional opportunity to dispose of hazardous waste before the new year begins at another Household Hazardous Waste event on Dec. 14 from 8 a.m. to noon. It will be held at the Public Works facility, 1850 W. Price Blvd.

This free service allows North Port residents to safely dispose of potentially harmful household products that should not be placed in regular trash.

“We’ve heard your feedback and are excited to announce a new event layout designed to accommodate more attendees,” Solid Waste Manager Frank Lama said. “In addition, starting next year, we’ll be offering additional household hazardous waste collection events throughout the year to better serve our community. Stay tuned for more details!”

The accepted items include:

Pool chemicals, pesticides, paint, chemical cleaning products, fertilizers, automotive products, batteries, household fire extinguishers, propane cylinders (BBQ size), fluorescent bulbs, solvents, adhesives and glues, tires, unwanted medication and sharps (place in rigid, puncture resistant, leak proof containers).

Public Works will not be accepting:

  • Garbage
  • Appliances
  • Yard waste
  • Ammunition
  • Fireworks/flares
  • Hurricane debris

As a reminder, residents can always take unwanted medication to the North Port Police Department, 4980 City Hall Blvd. Sharp objects can also always be taken to any North Port Fire Rescue Station; Please ensure it is placed in a secure container.
