A middle school student has been arrested following a school shooting threat made on TikTok.

On the morning of October 25, 2024, detectives with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office were notified by FBI taskforce members of a potential school threat made by a juvenile residing in Charlotte County. This threat was posted over the social media platform “TikTok”. The user posted a comment on another juvenile’s video stating “I’m going to shoot up your school tomorrow”. The school in question is NOT in Charlotte County.

Taskforce members conducted an investigation of the user’s account and comment and shared the information with the detectives of CCSO. The account was determined to belong to Caleb D. Nantz (07/15/2010). This juvenile attends a middle school in Port Charlotte.

“We take every threat seriously, and both law enforcement and school officials collaborate to address these matters swiftly and appropriately. Ensuring the safety and security of our schools is our highest priority. I would like to thank the FBI Task Force and the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office for their prompt response in this situation.”

– Mark Vianello, Superintendent of Schools

Immediately after, detectives responded to Caleb’s address and confirmed he was at home with family members. The juvenile and parents were interviewed, during which time the juvenile provided a confession.

“As I have always stated, we will not take anything for granted when we hear about a potential threat to one of our schools. My team will respond without hesitation to investigate and take action as necessary. In this case, this young man let his emotions get the better of him, and now he will have to face real consequences. Thank you to our partners at the FBI Task Force for helping bring this comment to our attention.”

– Sheriff Bill Prummell

Based on the confession gathered, probable cause was established for the arrest of Caleb Nantz (07/15/2010) on one charge of:

  • Written or electronic threats to kill, do bodily injury, or conduct a mass shooting.

Nantz was taken into custody and transported to the Charlotte County Jail.
