City of Venice to shut off water to several areas Wednesday morning

The City of Venice Utilities Department is expected to shut off and/or reduce the level of service for water the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 9, in order to isolate the infrastructure for protection of the water supply for Sarasota Memorial Hospital-Venice and critical medical facilities in advance of Hurricane Milton’s expected impact to the area. Water service, including water for fire protection, will be shut off for the following developments: Windwood, The Sophia, Waterford/Berkshire Place, The Reserve Apartments, Pinebrook Lake Club, Lakeside Woods South, and Pinebrook South and remain off for the duration of the storm and until any repairs are completed. Please note, this is in addition to Tuesday evening’s planned water shutoff for the island of Venice.
All City of Venice Utilities customers should expect that their water service will be interrupted due to the severity of the storm. The water system will not be repressurized until major damage is repaired, which may take up to several days. Wastewater service and power are also expected to be unavailable during this time.
Please heed evacuation orders for Levels A, B, and C, which have been called today. Anyone choosing to shelter in place should prepare accordingly and collect and store as much water as possible, including bottled water, plastic holding jugs, filling your bathtub, etc.
Another advisory will be distributed once water service has been restored. This may take several days. Once service is restored, you will be under a boil water advisory until you receive a notification stating the water is safe for consumption. When you boil water for eating and drinking, bring it to a rolling boil for 3 full minutes and then let it cool.
These procedures are standard during a storm of this magnitude to protect the potable water system and maintain service to critical facilities.
