Venice Police track down an individual wanted on a warrant, finding him hiding out in a pond

VPD: Regarding inquiries about law enforcement activity on Saturday evening in the vicinity of Bird Bay and Albee Farm Rd, VPD officers identified an individual on a bicycle with outstanding felony probation violation warrants. Upon attempted contact, 33-year-old Trevor Benson of Venice fled into the Bird Bay community, concealing himself in a pond near Saint Claire Circle. With assistance from Sarasota County (FL) Sheriff’s Office deputies and Air1, a secure perimeter was established until VPD marine officers obtained a jon boat to facilitate the safe capture and custody of Benson, now in the Sarasota County Jail.
