Charlotte County Public Safety

On Tuesday, just after noon, Charlotte County Fire & EMS responded to a call for a man on fire at the Town Center Mall. CCSO arrived on the scene first and confirmed a patient with burns. Responding crew requested that a medical helicopter be put on standby. (When on standby, the flight crew powers up the helicopter and stand ready to fly if needed). Battalion Chief 2 arrived, assessed the patient and requested the helicopter. Unfortunately, the patient, who had burns over his entire body, went into cardiac arrest as the helicopter was landing. When this happens, our crew transports the patient by ground because there is not enough room in the helicopter to provide proper cardiac care and perform CPR.

Charlotte County Fire & EMS Fire Marshal Scott Morris responded to investigate the fire. The State Fire Marshal and CCSO major crimes unit are on the scene investigating.
