SPD responds to, resolves mental health crisis

Shortly after 1:15 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2024, Sarasota Police responded to a person encountering a mental health crisis near the intersection of East Avenue and Floyd Street, Sarasota. 

 

The Sarasota Police Department’s Crisis Negotiation Unit successfully de-escalated the situation. At approximately 2:45 p.m., the incident was peacefully resolved, and the individual is in protective custody. 

 

Due to the incident’s proximity to nearby schools, they were briefly on lockdown. The situation has been resolved, and the public is not in danger.
